Translation Day Singapore 2025 Film Project

What I Did.

I worked with the Singapore Book Council on Translation Day Singapore 2025, which took place on 27 and 28 September, helping to capture and produce video content for the event. I worked closely with the marketing team throughout the project, filming the speakers, activities, interactions, and general atmosphere of the event while keeping their creative direction in mind. I also filmed vox pops with translators who were speakers at the event, with my former marketing manager conducting the interviews while I focused on capturing the conversations on camera. This required me to pay attention to framing, positioning, timing, and the overall quality of the footage while allowing the conversations to happen naturally.

After filming, I edited the footage using CapCut, turning longer recordings into shorter and easier-to-understand videos for online audiences. I selected the strongest sections, removed unnecessary material and repetition, and structured the footage around the key points we wanted to communicate. I worked through drafts with the marketing team, making sure they were submitted on time and adjusting the edits based on their feedback so that the final content was closer to their intended vision. While I had previous experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Premiere Rush, CapCut was more practical for this project because of my device compatibility and workflow. As I was about to start my NS journey.

What I Learned.

This project gave me a better understanding of what it means to create content while working towards someone else’s vision. I had to balance my own creative decisions with the direction of the Singapore Book Council’s marketing team and learn to respond to feedback without losing sight of what the content was meant to achieve. Filming the translators’ vox pops also gave me more experience working around unscripted conversations. Although I was not conducting the interviews, being behind the camera meant staying attentive to the conversation and making sure I captured footage that could work well in the final edit.

I also learned a lot about editing and making decisions under practical constraints. Working through lengthy recordings taught me that a good edit is not about including everything, but knowing what needs to stay and what can be removed without losing the main message. At the same time, working through drafts and meeting deadlines showed me the importance of communication and reliability in a creative project. The experience gave me a better sense of how filming, editing, feedback, and delivery come together when working as part of a real marketing and content team.

Goals for Continued Learning.

I want to build on this experience by becoming more confident across the different stages of video production, particularly in editing, documentary-style filming, interviews, and short-form content. I would like to continue developing my skills in Adobe Premiere Pro and Premiere Rush while learning more about professional editing workflows, including pacing, sound, colour grading, subtitles, transitions, and narrative structure. I also want to become more confident in filming interviews and capturing natural conversations in a way that gives the final edit more options.

I also want to improve at turning a creative brief into content that feels appropriate for its audience while becoming more efficient in my own production workflow. This includes organising recorded footage, selecting shots, preparing drafts, responding to feedback, and delivering work within deadlines.

More broadly, I would like to continue working on projects involving arts, culture, people, and storytelling, using experience to strengthen both my technical skills and my understanding of how creative content can communicate ideas and experiences.
