Diploma in Arts Business Management

What I Did.

I completed a Diploma in Arts Business Management at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, a comprehensive diploma program that provided me with both the theoretical foundation and practical skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to the arts and heritage sector. The curriculum offered a multidisciplinary overview of how cultural organisations function, with emphasis on key areas such as arts administration, marketing, audience development, community engagement, and financial planning. These modules were designed not only to deepen academic understanding but also to cultivate the real-world competencies required for success in the creative industries. By exploring the interconnectedness of cultural, economic, and social frameworks, the diploma equipped me with a holistic view of how arts institutions can drive both impact and sustainability.

Throughout the three-year diploma program, I completed a wide range of modules that spanned both theoretical and applied learning. These included Academic Writing & Presentation, Introduction to the Arts I & II—covering foundational knowledge in music, theatre, visual arts, and dance—as well as Introduction to Arts & Heritage Management. More practice-oriented modules such as Festival & Event Management, Arts Marketing & Communication, Human Capital Management, and Financial Management enabled me to translate concepts into tangible projects. These experiences helped me develop a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in managing creative institutions. They also gave me greater insight into the cultural landscape of Singapore and its position within the wider regional and global arts ecosystem.

What I Learned.

This diploma strengthened my capacity to think both strategically and creatively within the context of the arts. Through coursework and applied projects, I learned how to develop marketing plans tailored to specific audience segments, design inclusive programming for diverse communities, and apply sound business principles to ensure the long-term viability of cultural initiatives. The emphasis on hands-on learning honed my organisational, project management, and communication skills, and taught me how to work collaboratively across disciplines. I also gained practical experience in crafting proposals, managing budgets, and producing events—skills essential for any future role in arts and cultural work.

Beyond technical competencies, the programme deeply influenced my values and approach as an emerging arts practitioner. Modules such as Community Art and Education-Outreach & Engagement highlighted the transformative role the arts can play in fostering inclusivity, social connection, and cultural understanding. I became more attuned to the ways in which the arts can serve as a platform for underrepresented voices and as a bridge between different communities. These lessons reshaped my understanding of the purpose of art—not simply as an aesthetic pursuit, but as a socially embedded practice that has the potential to build empathy, challenge assumptions, and strengthen collective identity. The programme affirmed my belief that cultural work can be both meaningful and impactful when approached with intention and care.

Goals for Continued Learning.

As I move forward, I am eager to apply the knowledge and skills I have gained in real-world contexts through internships, collaborative projects, and volunteer work with arts organisations. I am particularly interested in deepening my experience in project management, community-based programming, and audience development—areas that I believe are crucial to building inclusive, engaging, and sustainable cultural experiences. I also hope to work on initiatives that bring the arts into everyday spaces, making them more accessible and relevant to broader publics, especially those who may not traditionally engage with the arts.

To remain adaptable in a fast-evolving sector, I plan to attend workshops, masterclasses, and seminars focused on cultural policy, digital transformation, and inclusive design. I also aim to explore the intersections of arts, education, and social innovation, and to take on leadership roles in future projects that allow me to coordinate teams, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive community-centered outcomes. This diploma has not only provided me with a solid academic and practical foundation, but has also solidified my long-term commitment to the arts and heritage field. I am excited to contribute to meaningful cultural work that inspires, connects, and empowers the communities it serves.

NITEC in Business Services

What I Did.

I completed a NITEC in Business Services, a course that provided me with a solid foundation in business operations and customer service. Over the course of my studies, I developed practical competencies in front-desk management, service recovery, event coordination, and administrative tasks across various business settings. Whether I was preparing internship presentations, participating in seminars, or contributing to classroom discussions, I consistently approached each opportunity with focus and a genuine eagerness to learn. These experiences helped me build confidence in communicating effectively, managing tasks independently, and performing in team-based environments.

Recognising the growing influence of digital transformation on the business landscape, I also pursued modules such as Introduction to Data Analytics & Cyber Security and Social Media Marketing. These modules gave me early exposure to how emerging technologies are reshaping the way businesses operate, especially in areas like customer engagement and brand visibility. I learned how to apply digital tools to support marketing efforts and streamline decision-making. Through hands-on projects and case studies, I became more aware of how digital readiness is essential for businesses to remain competitive in today’s evolving economic climate. This combination of foundational business training and digital awareness prepared me to support modern businesses in both front and back-facing roles.

What I Learned.

This course gave me more than just technical skills. It helped shape the way I think about business as a dynamic, people-driven ecosystem. I gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of communication, relationship management, and customer satisfaction. Modules such as Event Planning & Administration and Sales Techniques & Engagement strengthened my ability to plan, organise, and solve problems effectively. They also taught me how to build rapport with clients, handle service challenges with empathy, and maintain professionalism in high-pressure scenarios. These lessons highlighted how small interactions can have a long-lasting impact on a company’s brand and reputation.

Exposure to digital tools further expanded my understanding of business management. In Social Media Marketing, I learned how to create targeted content that speaks to different audience segments, while Data Analytics taught me how to interpret consumer behaviour to inform smarter business decisions. These experiences nurtured a mindset of adaptability and continuous improvement — qualities I now see as essential in a fast-paced, ever-changing industry. I also gained confidence in exploring new tools, platforms, and workflows that enhance both operational efficiency and customer engagement. Most importantly, I came to value innovation not just as a trend, but as a mindset that drives business sustainability and relevance.

Looking ahead, I aim to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve developed in real-world settings by taking on internships or entry-level roles in areas such as business development, digital marketing, or customer service operations. These opportunities will allow me to further refine my professional capabilities, build practical experience, and grow in confidence as I contribute to business outcomes. I am particularly interested in roles that involve both strategic thinking and customer engagement, where I can blend creative ideas with practical execution.

To stay ahead in a constantly evolving field, I plan to enrol in workshops, webinars, and certification programmes that focus on topics such as advanced data analytics, digital strategy, and leadership development. I also hope to actively build a professional network through career fairs, industry events, and mentorship programmes, as I believe collaboration and connection are key drivers of growth. This training journey has sparked a strong sense of purpose in me. What I Did.

I earned my GCE N (Technical) Level, graduating at the top of my class while consistently maintaining academic excellence across multiple subjects. Throughout my secondary school years, I was honoured to receive a series of Top in Standard awards that reflect my dedication, focus, and resilience. In 2018, I was recognised for excellence in both English Language and Science. In 2017, I topped the cohort in Computer Applications, Design & Technology, and English Language. In 2016, I earned the top position in Computer Applications. These achievements were not only a result of hard work, but also a reflection of my determination to overcome challenges and to continuously strive for improvement.

Beyond the classroom, I was actively involved in co-curricular activities and student leadership roles that enriched my secondary school journey. As a member of the Infocomm and Media Club, I explored the intersection of technology and media, gaining hands-on experience in event coverage, digital tools, and team-based production projects. I also took part in organising and supporting school events such as the Morning Assembly, Student Leader Investiture, and the Secondary One Inauguration Ceremony, helping foster school spirit and a sense of belonging. Additionally, serving as a Young Ambassador gave me the opportunity to represent my school at external functions. This role strengthened my communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills while deepening my understanding of responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of community service.

What I Learned.

My secondary school experience taught me the importance of consistency, discipline, and self-belief. Ultimately, I remain committed to lifelong learning and to giving back to the communities that have shaped me.
